design-centric films

Ever seen a film where the decor just makes you *sigh*? Well, it's either the decor or the romance... same difference.

The design in these films is integral to the impact they have on us. The set makes you feel like you are there... living in the 60's or living the lush life in Santa Barbara... it makes you feel. Which is what good design does; it makes you feel something, anything, just that thing... without realizing why.

Thanks to Alex for his inspiration...

mixology: white night stands

Katie needs night stand inspiration, so by golly, she shall have it. Since she doesn't want to divulge the vibe she has in mind, I am going with a favorite color of mine right now (is it a color? I suppose not)... white. It works no matter what style you're going for. And most importantly, it matches with everything! I suggest painting the wall behind these night stands a fun color to make them pop. Or try a graphic print wallpaper... so oo la la.

These tables from Ikea can be used as night stands and are... wait for it... $7.99! I mean, c'mon! If you want something a little more chic, I like this one from Crate & Barrel and this one from Room and Board.

all the rage: peacock blue

I am itching to decorate with this color... vibrant yet understated. I especially like it paired with gold.

mixology: animal prints

Love 'em or hate 'em? I, for one, am a total animal print bandwagoner. When they're trendy, I'm into them (with a classy twist, of course) but when they're not, my opinion somehow skews to EW!

Bottom line, animal prints are hot right now. From what I've seen, zebra tops the charts (which I am okay with because leopard decor has always been the unfortunate recipient of my ew factor, who knows why).

Check out these inspiration rooms... the nifty thing is that just one animal print pillow or rug can create a whole new vibe. Just a splash... you needn't go overboard.
